Cargo operations around Airport Road and Malton move freight between Pearson's air-cargo facilities and warehouses across the GTA. Ontario's DriveON program does not treat opacity and OBD as mutually exclusive streams. Qualifying heavy-duty diesels receive opacity testing; eligible vehicles also receive an OBD check or OBD data collection according to model year and GVWR.
Qualifying heavy-duty diesel commercial vehicles receive an opacity test. Eligible 2007-and-newer vehicles with a GVWR up to 6,350 kg also receive an OBD system test. Newer heavier units may also receive OBD data collection under the current DriveON directive. The applicable procedure depends on the vehicle's model year and GVWR. OBD should not be described as a universal replacement for the opacity test.
A heavy-duty diesel commercial motor vehicle with a Registered Gross Weight (RGW) over 4,500 kg needs an emissions test when it is being registered by a new owner and the vehicle is older than the current model year, or when it is at least seven model years old and the plate sticker is being renewed.
On a mixed Airport Road or Malton yard, some units may receive opacity only, and others opacity plus an OBD system check or OBD data collection. Confirm model year, GVWR and RGW for each vehicle ahead of an authorized mobile DriveON appointment so the licensed technician can apply the correct procedure.
An authorized mobile DriveON facility and licensed technician can inspect prepared units at an eligible yard when site access is safe.
